The Problem...
Disposal of Large Packing Crates
In the manufacture of aquariums, Perfecto Manufacturing of Noblesville,
IN was experiencing a major problem in the handling and disposal
of large quantities of big, heavy-duty glass packing crates, boxes, and
pallets – up to 58" high. It required the non-productive time of two full-time
workers to physically break them down and then fill four to five open-top refuse containers that were weekly destined for an area landfill.
Finding
a solution for this problem was compounded by the nature of the crate
construction, which included 2"x 6" internal and external structural
members plus reinforcing gussets.
The Solution...
A BloApCo 3KS Pallet Shredder
After conferring with the area BloApCo representative, it became apparent
that a heavy-duty shredder and a compactor would be required to handle
this rugged application. The selection of a BloApCo 3KS Pallet Shredder with tough flame-cut ripping wheels was further enhanced with the addition
of BloApCo's new Helical Box Crusher/Feeder that automatically crushes
and feeds complete boxes and crates up to 58" high. The BloApCo Model
3KS-2558HPX was mounted over a 40-yard compactor. According to Plant
Supt. Bill Burt, the combination of automatic crate breakdown, shredding
and compacting has reduced Perfecto's scrap volume to a single 40-yard
container per week and has eliminated one full-time person. "We are
extremely pleased with the total results," said Burt.
