SAVINGS
Savings
are achieved in two areas. (1) Electrical energy, when used for costly
air conditioning and motor drives. Each seal-drum conveyor uses only
3/4 hp, while fan-powered conveyors require 3 hp or more. (2) Natural
gas or oil...actual savings in this area can be computed as follows:
Cost to heat make-up air that has been evacuated from building by the
pneumatic scrap/waste handling system = .0000108 x CFM x
x hrs/day x number of days in heating season x cost per therm.
For example, let's assume the system exhausts 2,300 CFM. The heating
season is 9 months or 270 days. The
(based on an average temperature of 35 degrees -- raised to 70 degrees)
is 35 degrees. Figuring an 8-hour shift per day and a cost per therm
(for natural gas) of 7.3, savings would be $1,370.87 per year, per conveyor.
Savings for cooled air may be calculated in a similar fashion.
