Why a shredder?
Boxes and cartons
clog baler infeed hoppers because they tumble when they're conveyed into
a baler's mouth. This action makes a 20x30x36 in. carton 51 inches wide
as it turns to enter the baler. So even with a 50 in. wide mouth baler,
boxes get hung up. When cartons clog the baler you have several unattractive
choices:
Pay for personnel to break down the boxes; supply them with poles to
push the boxes into the baler; or oversize the entire system. However,
when you add a shredder to the system there is no limit to the size of
the box you can bale, and any standard baler will do.
Shredding also increases density of bales up to 50% and compactor density
up to 5 times. In either case you drastically cut haul away costs.
Shredding gives you more
Built-in safety
Eliminates need for personnel to push boxes into the baler infeed hopper
-- a dangerous practice which could result in injury to your personnel.
Additional safety is provided by safety overweight plate built into the
infeed conveyor. Whenever loads over 60 to 80 pounds reach this overweight
plate the infeed conveyor drive is disengaged and shredder motor power
is shut off.
Automatic self cleaning
Virtually eliminates the need for personnel to enter shredder to manually
remove overload and/or jammed material. Under jam conditions power to
drive motor is automatically interrupted and shredder reverses to reposition
material for another shredding pass. Ripper wheels
BloApCo ductile iron ripper wheels offer many advantages. They are cast
in halves, bolted together on the shaft, and keyed to adjacent wheels
so the teeth form a spiral pattern along the shaft length for efficient
tearing shredder action. The teeth are double-edged so the wheels can
be reversed on the shaft to extend their useful life.
Shredders pay for themselves.
Here's how...
A properly designed
shredding / baling / compacting system saves on labor costs since it will
operate completely unattended. In the words of one user, "Once an
empty box or carton is tossed on the conveyor, the next time we handle
it it's part of a 1500 lb. bale that we load into a boxcar for recycling.
Shredders work 100% of the time and shred everything that is put into
the system. By reducing cartons, boxes, etc. into small pieces the baler
is able to produce denser, heavier bales. This reduces the number of bales
and hauling costs. It also enables you to get a higher price for your
waste.
Assured destruction reduces pilferage.
One of the biggest revenue losses for warehouses and distribution centers
is pilferage. Individuals simply toss boxes of pilfered items into the
system, and later retrieve them, unharmed, from a bale. However, once
a shredder is introduced into the system there is no way for the thieves
to recover the items before they are destroyed. With no hope of gain,
pilfering through the waste handling system ceases. In some cases the
savings have amounted to tens of thousands of dollars per year.
When all of the savings are added up, it is easy to see how some shredder
users report that their shredder paid for itself in a matter of months.
Less
Noise...Less Dust
High-torque, low-speed action, combined with pierce-and-tear
shredding, make BloApCo the quietest pallet shredder with an acceptable
noise level at normal feed speeds. These same factors of low-speed, high-torque
action and pierce-and-tear shredding hold dust generation to a minimum.
Reduced fire hazard
BloApCo's tearing concept, rather than cutting or beating, greatly reduces
heat and dust build-up. With less heat and dust the possibility of fire
or explosion is eliminated.
Minimum operating costs
BloApCo engineers are conservative in their shredder design. This, plus
use of proven readily available components give BloApCo shredders exceptionally
long life with only normal routine care. Normal maintenance can be easily
performed by equipment operators or in-house maintenance people.
Optional items
When circumstances require it, BloApCo engineers can supply legs, dust
collectors, special foundations, hoppers and chutes.
